Under the hood
What the simulation models
This page is for people who want the detail. Every effect that changes what comes out of your box is part of the circuit model, and the build checks run on the same design.
500
frequency points per simulation
5,000
configurations per optimization
3
enclosure types: sealed, vented, bandpass
The three stages
Stage 01
Simulate
A full electroacoustic circuit model gives SPL, impedance, group delay, excursion and port velocity for the driver and the enclosure you pick.
Stage 02
Optimize
The optimizer scores 5,000 candidates using Latin hypercube sampling with two-pass refinement. You can weight the result for output, sound quality or a balance of both.
Stage 03
Build
Dimensioned cut sheets with port routing, kerf bends, corner strips and panel layout. The 3D preview shows every joint before you cut.
What is in the model
| Effect | How RokketBox handles it |
|---|---|
| Circuit simulation | Full electroacoustic equivalent circuit, 500 frequency points |
| Radiation loading | Bessel/Struve series on the cone and the port |
| Port turbulence | Iterative nonlinear convergence |
| Motor compression | BL Gaussian falloff near Xmax |
| Cabin gain | 3-axis standing wave model for your vehicle |
| Cabin-port coupling | Port impedance modified by cabin back-pressure |
| Voice coil inductance | Lossy semi-inductance (Leach model) in place of an ideal Le |
| Port end corrections | Flanged and free-end corrections on both circular and slot ports |
| Group delay | Savitzky-Golay smoothed, plotted per configuration |
| Subsonic filter | Binary-search HPF that keeps excursion within Xmax |
| Build validation | Port routing rejects designs that cannot be built |
| Optimizer scoring | De-scores high excursion, port chuff and ports that do not fit |
